GENERAL COURSE INFORMATION
ANNOUNCEMENTS
- Nov. 23: If you are planning to participate in the CIS poster competition
as an option in the project assignments,
email Dr. DeSouza (email: desouzag@missouri.edu) your name, poster
title, and names of co-authors. He suggests printing your poster at
Stanley Hall (near Memorial Union), which should be a minimal cost
($2). The suggestion was to make a pdf file with the proper page size
and margins, rather than asking the printer to upscale a ppt slide to a
large format. Check with the printing center to find out specific
requirements and lead time for printing.
- Nov. 18: I will be out of town for a conference on Friday.
Erik Stone will be taking my class and will show an example of a TSK fuzzy
system and
will show some demos on using the Matlab Fuzzy Toolbox, which should help
you get started on Project #3.
If you missed class today, I presented an example of MA fuzzy inference.
- Nov. 11: Assignments have been posted for the Fuzzy Systems programming
assignment and for the Graduate credit assignment. NOTE that you cannot choose
the poster option for both assignments. Here is the
flyer for the Mizzou CIS
Poster Competition to be held on Tuesday, Dec. 8. Even if you choose not
to participate in the competition, you are welcome to attend the event.
Free lunch will be served. There are prizes for both the undergraduate and
graduate student portion of the competition.
- Oct. 28: Class on Friday, Nov. 6 is canceled. Instead, I am asking
everyone to attend Dr. Jerry Mendel's
seminar which will be held
Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 4 pm in Ketcham Auditorium. This is in the area of
Fuzzy Logic so it fits nicely with our current discussions in class.
- Oct. 19: The Midterm Exam on Friday is closed book and closed notes.
However, you may bring one sheet of paper, 11 by 8.5 inches, with
notes or equations (one side only). I will ask you to hand it in with the
exam but it will be returned to you.
- Oct. 9: I am looking for undergraduate students who are interested
in working on research projects. See the
eldertech web site
for a list of potential projects.
- Oct. 8: The Midterm Exam will be given on Friday, Oct. 23. The Exam will cover
introductory CI course materials and topics on neural networks
and evolutionary computation.

The assignments are to be done individually, and all work presented
for credit must be your own.
