Biography

Xinhua Zhuang is the C.W. LaPierre professor in the Computer Science Department at the University of Missouri—Columbia as well as a recipient of the College of Engineering's senior faculty research award. He also serves as director of the Multimedia Communications and Visualization Lab and the Cyber Security/Trust Lab. Zhuang's work in morphological image processing, wavelet image coding and reliable and secure interactive video communications is particularly notable. He has served as a consultant over the years to Siemens Inc., Panasonic Inc., NeoPath Inc. and NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center, and acted as general co-chair of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineeers (IEEE) International Conference Multimedia and Expo in 2004 as well as general chair of the IEEE International Workshop on Multimedia Signal Processing in 2005. Zhuang is a fellow in NATO's advisory group for aerospace research and development and has contributed chapters to eight books and authored more than 250 publications. Zhuang has received research funding from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, NATO and NASA.
